My Parents Legacy of Love

My Mom and Dad recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 9th! They had a really nice time together celebrating the day with friends, and reminiscing about their special day 60 years ago, when they first said, “I do..” To me they are both a great source of inspiration, wisdom and love! Although I live some distance away, I call often to visit with them on the phone. I really enjoy spending time with them whether in person or over the phone. I am sure you all enjoy being around people who just seem to radiate positive loving energy out to everyone around them. When they walk into the room, it’s like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. Just being around them makes you feel better and more productive. Whereas the grumpy, gloomy bossy people just drain you of your energy and make you miserable! The Positive Power of Laughter! :D

What is it about a good laugh that can just melt your stress away, and turn a bad day back into a good day? How can we utilize this wonderful gift more often?

I was busy at work today as usual, and could hear one of my co-workers getting more and more stressed as her work load piled up on her, and customers yelled at her on the phone despite her best efforts to explain procedures that needed to be followed in order for her to help them resolve their issues. Finally after one particularly difficult call, I turned to her and calmly suggested that perhaps that last customer really needed a laxative, and that was why he was so uptight and cranky with her! Balanced Living ~ Healthy Habits for a Happier You!

One of the things we all long for more than anything else is to simply be happy. If this is something we all seek, why is it so hard to attain? How might we reach this seemingly unattainable goal? We buy new things, and try different things, we move from one place to another and we hop from one relationship to another; or from one job to another. Nothing is truly satisfying, as we are still unhappy. Why can we never find that perfect person, place or thing to make us happy?

For the Love of Geese

Personally one of the traits I most deeply admire in my fellow humans, is the ability to be kind to others. To my delight on my way to work yesterday I got to witness one of the better moments you can have on your commute to work. We were approaching a traffic light in an area in town where there are still some beautiful grassy fields where cattle graze. As I was nearing the light I noticed everyone was stopping before the intersection, so I stopped too, and put on my hazards to warn other drivers that something was going on. I looked about quickly to see the reason for the stop, and that is when I saw them. Practicing Mindfulness

We each have many opportunities each day to practice watering the seeds of love happiness and peace, or anger, fear and bitterness within our being. Today was no exception for me. I felt very angry and irritated as the employment agency I work for sent my much-needed paycheck to the wrong address! This naturally led to a lot of seemingly needless frustration as I went to such lengths to simply get my check. Thankfully I did finally get the check. What was important here however was what I mentally considered as I went through this situation. I considered what I have been learning about watching what seeds I am watering, and using mindfulness to help soothe and transform the angry fearful feelings into happier more positive ones. How to become more Understanding ~ and Increase Your Peace and Happiness!

9074I am reading the most wonderful book right now, “Living Buddha Living Christ” by one of my favorite authors, Thich Nhat Hanh. In this beautifully written book Thich Nhat Hanh eloquently compares and presents the teachings of both Buddha and Jesus Christ in very practical ways. He suggests using the concept of mindfulness to help us better understand each other. Buddhist concepts like mindfulness can be used within your own faith to help you grow in your understanding and tolerance of others who see things differently than yourself.
