Have you ever wondered while walking along a beach what unusual things you may find? Perhaps even a message in a bottle from long ago. While that would be pretty awesome, have you ever stopped to consider that you are “a message in a bottle” to everyone you know? Well we each are a living message to everyone around us. The real question is, what are we saying in this message?
I am sure you all enjoy being around people who just seem to radiate positive loving energy out to everyone around them. When they walk into the room, it’s like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. Just being around them makes you feel better and more productive. Whereas the grumpy, gloomy bossy people just drain you of your energy and make you miserable! We are all capable of being that radiant person, who lights up the room, or the grumpy Gus, always complaining and drawing everybody down. I am reading the most wonderful book right now, “Living Buddha Living Christ” by one of my favorite authors, Thich Nhat Hanh. In this beautifully written book Thich Nhat Hanh eloquently compares and presents the teachings of both Buddha and Jesus Christ in very practical ways. He suggests using the concept of mindfulness to help us better understand each other. Buddhist concepts like mindfulness can be used within your own faith to help you grow in your understanding and tolerance of others who see things differently than yourself. In today’s world with so many confusing changes taking place, life can feel very much like trying to navigate completely uncharted territory. To be able to do this with any degree of success, and avoid many problems along the way we need a moral compass or guideline to live by.
